ABOUT Hugo
Hugo was born in Nicaragua but raised in the Near Northside part of Houston. He is a proud graduate of Janowski Elementary, Burbank Middle and Jefferson Davis High (currently named Northside HS) Schools. He graduated in the top 5% of his high school class with a Tenneco Presidential Scholarship (currently named Project GRAD Houston). Through hard work and perseverance, Hugo became the first in his family to graduate from college earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston.
After working several years for various public officials, he decided to go back to grad school. He earned two master’s degrees, one in Public Administration from Florida International University and the second in International Administration from the University of Miami while working full-time for Miami-Dade County.
Hugo's engagement with community-based initiatives and organizations includes founding the Student Vote Project to increase the number of college age voters to participate in electoral process. Due, in part to his leadership and community organizing, Jeff Davis (Northside) High School secured more than 40 million dollars in additional funding than initially allocated. He is actively involved with the League of United Latin America Council (LULAC), Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Parents for Public Schools of Houston and Student Vote Project.
Currently, he works for the Astros Foundation as a Program Manager.

Hugo is an experienced professional with over 20 years of working with local, state and federal level elected officials; political campaigns and non-profit organizations. Those experience have allowed him to enhance his leaderships skills and commitment to serving others.
Hugo embodies Gandhi's motto of “being the change you want to see in the world," with his commitment and active participation in the community. Moreover, he strives to be the example by mentoring those around him to give back.
